Bashar teaches that in a universe of infinite change, consciousness itself is the only constant. Forms change, experiences change, beliefs change, but the fact of awareness—the 'I AM'—never changes. This is the deepest level of identity, beneath all roles, labels, and stories. When you identify with your consciousness rather than your circumstances, you find the anchor that remains stable through all storms. Bashar notes that humans typically identify with mutable things: their body, their job, their relationships, their beliefs. When these change, they feel they are 'losing themselves.' But if you identify with the constant awareness that witnesses all these changes, you become invulnerable to loss. The practice is to regularly ask, 'Who is aware of these thoughts?' and to rest in the answer, which is not a concept but a presence. This is the essence of meditation and the foundation of true self-knowledge.
