Loneliness and Solitude: The Difference Between Empty and Full

REL-017
Bashar distinguishes between loneliness (a negative judgment about being alone) and solitude (a positive choice to be with oneself).
Bashar distinguishes between loneliness (a negative judgment about being alone) and solitude (a positive choice to be with oneself). Loneliness arises from the belief that you need others to be complete—that your worth and joy depend on external validation. Solitude arises from the knowledge that you are already complete and that time alone is nourishing. Bashar teaches that many people rush from relationship to relationship because they cannot stand their own company, which means they are avoiding self-confrontation. He advises developing a satisfying relationship with yourself first, because all external relationships are mirrors of that internal relationship. 'If you do not enjoy being alone with you, why would anyone else enjoy being with you?' The practice is to schedule regular solitude—time without phones, media, or other people's input—where you simply be with yourself. This builds self-trust and reveals that you are never truly alone; your higher self, guides, and the universe are always present.
